There’s a new name on the Pleasantburg Veterinary Clinic building alongside Dr. McElveen’s, a name that isn’t new to the office itself. Dr. Betsy Andrews has been a veterinarian with us since May of this year, but she has been a part of our team for many years.
Dr. Andrews grew up locally on her family farm with horses, peacocks, cats, dogs and even guinea. She went to Greenville High School and went on to Clemson for college. “My grandmother always knew I should be a veterinarian. Her dog came to Pleasantburg Veterinary Clinic, and she thought it would be a great place for me to get experience,” she recalls of the time she made a career path change. During her undergrad years at Clemson, Betsy realized that her interest in veterinary medicine was more than just a hobby; she was made for it. She smiles as she adds, “My whole family knew before I did, that veterinary practice was ultimately going to be my chosen path.”
She began her time at Pleasantburg Veterinary Clinic by volunteering, shadowing Doc and other assistants, and her work time turned into a job when she began working as an assistant. She completed her externship with us during her final year at the University of Georgia, the veterinary school where our very own Doc got his degree!
“It has been wonderful to be back in a place with people I am familiar with, doing something that I love to do,” Dr. Andrews says cheerfully. Next time you visit us, be sure to say “hello!” to our newest and brightest addition to Pleasantburg Veterinary Clinic.
